About the Maryland Concert Opera

The Maryland Concert Opera, in residence at the historic Grace United Church of Christ in downtown Frederick, Maryland, was founded by Noel Lester in 2006. The goals of the company are twofold: to present high-quality operatic music in concert form to the Frederick community and to support Grace Church’s ministries to the hungry and homeless. Thanks to the generosity of our patrons, 50% of all ticket sales are donated to Grace Church’s social ministries. To date, the MCO has raised over $5,500 for this purpose.

Past concerts have included a complete performance of Mozart’s “Abduction from the Seraglio,” (March, 2007), a young artists showcase concert (September, 2007), masterclasses by the acclaimed sopranos and pedagogues, Ruth Drucker (November, 2007) and Phyllis Bryn-Julson (October, 2008), a “Best of Mozart” concert (March, 2008), “Falling in Love,” an afternoon of Romantic opera arias and duets with mezzo soprano Deidra Palmour Gorton and tenor William Gorton (June, 2008), “The Best of Verdi” concert (November, 2008), a complete performance of “Die Fledermaus” (March 2009), a "Best of Bel Canto" November, 2009), and "Opera Goes to the Movies" (May, 2010).
